Clarksville is a city in Red River County, Texas with a population of 3,883 and 1,530 households.  It is the county seat of Red River County.  Located at US 82 and Hwy 37, it is 31 miles E of Paris, 39 miles N of Mount Vernon, 59 miles W of Texarkana and about 2 � hours from Dallas.  Clarksville is a well-located community with a pro-industry attitude.  Hunting and Fishing are some of the best in the state.  The City has 3 parks, 2 country clubs, 5 restaurants, 4 tennis courts, 1 fitness center, a championship golf course and the old church theater.  There are over twenty churches located in Red River County.  East Texas Medical Center operates the County Hospital.  There are seven doctors and four dentists practicing within the county.  Clarksville enjoys a mild climate through out the year with an average annual temperature of 65.8 degrees and an average relative humidity of 50% with an annual average rainfall of 45.29 inches.  Monthly average high temperature in January is 63 degrees and in July it�s 93 degrees.  The monthly average low temperature are 40 degrees in January and 72 degrees in July.

Rich with history, Clarksville is actually one of the oldest cities in Texas.  It came into being in 1837, but was already an established settlement in the 1820s.  It also has the distinction of being one of the only towns in the state that never suffered through a fire.  Consequently, the courthouse contains records from the beginning of the Republic until today. The county clerk's office is always teeming with genealogy folks looking for clues - including those studying their ancestors roots. Names of the slaves that lived in the county from the earliest times can be found in old probate records.

Clarksville is a "Texas Main Street City." and for the serious Texas history buff - or practically anyone who likes to look at towns and muse "what used to be, what could've been, what will happen now", it's a fine old town with a slow southern pace that'll make anyone feel right at home.
